Why Buy a Property in North London?

Many families choose to move to these parts of North London because of the availability of well-proportioned, predominantly Georgian and Victorian houses and because of the abundance of good schools in the area. There is also a large selection of flats and smaller sized properties. These are often converted period properties or modern developments that are ideally suited to young couples and professionals who work in central London and enjoy the vibrancy and colour that comes with living in, or nearby, fashionable and dynamic locations such as Camden Town and Islington.

North London Areas

Of those who aim to buy a property, the average length of time tenants are prepared to wait is 4.1 years, with men content to wait 4.6 years and women 3.8 years.

Three quarters (75%) of tenants are happy renting, with 12% saying ‘they couldn’t be happier’ and 30% ‘very happy’. Just 15% are not happy, with the remaining 43% ‘reasonably happy’.

As for the motivations behind renting, the top three reasons are:

  1. I don’t want to/can’t financial commitment of buying a home – 46%
  2. I have fewer responsabilities than an owner (i.e. my landlord is respinsible for most issues) – 40%

Most areas of North London like Islington, Highbury, and Camden are well served by public transport and makes commuting to the City and West End very quick and easy. All these areas are near a wide choice of bus routes and over-ground and tube stations which are often within only a few stops of Kings Cross, St Pancras International and Euston stations. The City and West End can often be within walking distance.
