Living in Barnehurst
Barnehurst, in the Greater London Borough of Bexley, is located adjacent to North Bexleyheath with a DA7 postcode.
The town came into existence in 1881 after land was sold to make way for the train line between Lewisham and Dartford.
What followed was a swell of residential building around the station, notably the Barnehurst Estate in 1926 that remains popular with commuters today.

Barnehurst Property Market
Barnehurst is the ideal area for commuters as buyers and tenants pay a premium for what Barnehurst, as an area, has to offer such as regular train services, numerous bus routes and easy access to the A2 & M25. Therefore, if you are looking to sell, rent or buy, Anthony James Property Specialists’ will be happy to share their knowledge with you.
The properties that were built at the start of the 20th century are still a big part of the housing stock in Barnehurst today. There are some fantastic semi-detached houses available with beautiful bay windows to the front, as well as some truly affordable terraced homes that make excellent starter houses. Look out for 1930s extended properties that can offer as many as five bedrooms.

Those that prefer to dine at home can chose from many take-away options, including fish and chips, Chinese, Indian and kebabs. Finer dining and a wider selection of bars and pubs can be found at Bexleyheath, Bluewater and Blackheath – which are all accessible by road and rail within 15 minutes.
Barnehurst History
Barnehurst is unusual in that it’s most notable piece of history is a pub. The Red Barn was built in 1936 and was home to a local jazz band – The George Webb Dixielanders. Their Monday night performances at the pub were credited by many for keeping jazz music alive in Britain after WWII, and a plaque commemorating this fact was unveiled at the pub in 1985 by jazz legend George Melly. The pub still has a music tradition with karaoke most months.
